Acne
Acne is a condition that affects many people and can have a profound impact on self-esteem. Acne rashes occur in different places on the face and body and can be accompanied by comedons, papules, pustules and, in some cases, cysts.
Although acne is a problem that occurs more frequently in adolescence, it sometimes also affects adults.
What causes acne?
Acne is caused by a buildup of sebum and dead skin cells that clog skin pores, leading to an overgrowth of bacteria and creating inflammation. While there are triggers associated with acne breakouts, hormonal changes remain the main cause.
Some acne triggers can be avoided to minimize breakouts:
- The use of oily or greasy skin care products as well as makeup and hair products that can clog pores
- Prolonged wearing of tight clothing, hats or helmets
- Stress
- Touching, scratching, and popping acne pimples
- Consumption of certain foods that are high in sugar, cow’s milk and processed foods
- Consumption of overly processed foods
- Over-cleaning the skin
