Chemical peel

Chemical peels have been used for several years to improve signs of photoaging (pigmentation spots, wrinkles, fine lines, dull complexion), pigmentation disorders and acne.
Facial Treatment

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a resurfacing procedure that involves applying a chemical substance to the skin to provoke a limited, controlled destruction of the epidermis and, in some cases, the top layer of the dermis. The purpose of this destruction is to achieve regeneration of the destroyed layers and to stimulate the production of elastic fibers and collagen. Following a successful chemical peel treatment, the skin regains a smoother and more even appearance.
Chemical peels are classified according to the degree of exfoliation, the products used in the treatment and their chemical concentrations. Depending on the skin problems you want to address, the various chemical peel options will be reviewed and explained to you by your treating professional.

The Rejuvena Approach

How does a chemical peel session work?

Our goal is to offer you a personalized, effective and safe treatment. A complete evaluation will be carried out beforehand, allowing us to determine whether or not a chemical peel is the best option for you, and to ensure there are no contraindications to proceeding.
Here are the steps for your first consultation:
Review of your medical record
We will discuss your medical history, medication, allergies and previous treatments.
Photography
The photos are kept in your medical record and allow you to evaluate the results of the treatments.
Discussion of your concerns
Your professional will discuss your expectations and make suggestions to meet your needs.
Here are the steps of the chemical peel:
Step 1:
The treatment area will be cleaned and prepared.
Step 2:
The chemical peel solution will be applied. You may feel a slight tingling or warm sensation as the solution takes effect on your skin. This is temporary.
Step 3:
The number of peel layers we apply depends on the area to be treated and varies from patient to patient.
Step 4:
The chemical peel product is removed.
Step 5:
A moisturizing solution and sunscreen complete the treatment to calm, moisturize and protect the skin against UVA and UVB exposure.
During your consultation, we can recommend topical products to apply before and after your treatment to maximize the results of your chemical peel.

FAQ

How many treatments are needed to achieve optimal results?
For optimal results, it is normally necessary to perform several peeling sessions. Normally, two to five sessions are recommended, spaced about 3 to 4 weeks apart, depending on your skin type and the problem you want to address.
How can you properly prepare your skin before a treatment?

Here are the tips to follow during the week before your chemical peel:

  • Do not mechanically exfoliate your face
  • Avoid products in your skincare routine that have an exfoliating effect
  • Avoid unprotected sun exposure. If you must go out in the sun, please apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and wear a hat.
  • Avoid products that could dry out your skin
  • Stay well-hydrated
What to expect after treatment?
After the chemical peel, you can expect to have redness and flaking of the skin on the treated areas. The intensity will depend on the concentration of the peel and recovery can take 1-5 days.
Here are our post-treatment recommendations:
  • Do not cleanse the skin for a period of 8 hours after your chemical peel
  • Avoid using products containing salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy acids, retinol, prescription retinoids, or benzoyl peroxide for 3-5 days after the chemical peel. You can resume these products when the flaking, redness, or dryness is gone.
  • Keep your skin well-hydrated
  • Protect your skin from the sun with a good sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) for 1 month to avoid burns or hyperpigmentation.
  • Do not exfoliate your skin for 1 week
  • Do not pull or scratch peeling skin as this may cause hyperpigmentation
What are the contraindications to chemical peels?

Although our chemical peels are safe, there are some contraindications to this type of treatment. You should not receive a chemical peel if:

  • You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
  • You have a skin condition in the treated area (infection, wound, lesion, or other)
  • You have used Accutane in the last 12 months
  • You have had facial waxing, electrolysis or other laser procedures in the last week
