MICRO-NEEDLING WITH NCTF® BOOST 135 HA

Micro-needling stimulates skin collagen and elastin production by creating tiny superficial lesions using fine needles. The skin quickly repairs itself in a way that softens fine lines, reduces wrinkles and scars, and improves overall skin texture. Our clinic uses the MicroPen EVO, a state-of-the-art automated micro-needling device approved by Health Canada.

Depending on the desired results and the suggested treatment plan, our clinic offers micro-needling with NCTF® BOOST 135 HA serum or with platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

Micro-needling with NCTF® BOOST 135 HA

NCTF® BOOST 135 HA is a unique revitalizing and anti-aging complex that nourishes the epidermis with the components it needs to stay healthy. It contains 59 active components, namely amino acids, vitamins, minerals, coenzymes, nucleic acids and antioxidant. These active components make it possible to create an optimal environment to stimulate the activity of fibroblasts which are the cells responsible to produce collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. It thus allows a uniformity of the complexion, a reduction of the volume of the pores, a reduction of the wrinkles and fine lines as well as a better firmness and hydration of the skin.

Micro-needling with PRP

Micro-needling can also be combined with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) in an increasingly popular treatment commonly known to as a Vampire Facial. This treatment involves placing a sample of the patient’s blood in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets, which is rich in growth factors that stimulate regeneration in certain tissues. PRP is applied in a topical way to the face, scalp, or other parts of the body for rejuvenation of the face, hair loss and improvement of stretch marks.

Treatment benefits

Micro-needling is used to counter the effects of normal skin aging and photoaging:

  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Améliorer l’élasticité de la peau
  • Improvement in skin elasticity, texture, and tone
  • Reduction of acne scarring
  • Reduction of pigmentary lesions caused by the sun (solar lentigo or age spotting)
  • Reduction of stretch marks

Risk and safety

Micro-needling is a safe procedure that requires little recovery time. Treatments last between 30 and 60 minutes, there are few side effects other than temporary redness in the treatment area, there is very low risk of hyperpigmentation and scarring, and patients can return quickly to regular activities.

How to prepare for your micro-needling appointment

Two weeks prior to your treatment

  • Avoid laser/IPL treatment to the area that will be treated, as well as sun exposure without sunscreen.

One week prior to treatment

  • It is advisable to precede treatments with a chemical peel when micro-needling is done on the face. The chemical peel will exfoliate your skin to maximize the effects of your treatment.
  • Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication (Advil, Motrin, Naproxen, etc.) the week prior to your treatment. This class of medication increases the risk of bruising. However, if you take any anti-inflammatory, antiplatelet or anticoagulant medications for medical reasons (Aspirin, Plavix, Coumadin, Xarelto, Eliquis, etc.), please continue taking them, and be sure to inform Dr. Hould.
  • Avoid the following supplements: St. John's Wort, Gingko biloba, primrose oil, garlic supplement, ginseng and vitamin E. These supplements increase the risk of bruising.
  • Avoid skin care products that can potentially increase skin sensitivity (retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics, etc.).
  • Avoid waxing, epilatory creams or electrolysis to the zones you are planning to treat.

The day of your treatment

  • If you suffer from cold sores, please take your anti-viral medication.
  • Please come to your appointment without make-up
  • Make sure you stay well-hydrated 24 hours before your appointment.

*** Please note that patients who have taken Accutane must have finished their treatment for a period of at least 6 months before doing micro-needling treatment and PRP.

What to expect during your micro-needling session

  • Prior to treatment, we will clean and apply a mild anesthetic solution to your skin in the treatment areas.
  • The NCTFMD BOOST 135 HA solution is then applied to the areas treated (face, neck, décolleté). If you choose to add Platelet-Rich-Plasma to your treatment, we will extract a small sample of blood from your arm, centrifuge the sample to generate a PRP serum, and apply it to the treatment area.
  • Using a sterile cartridge of 14 tiny needles in the Micropen EVO, we gently press the device against the skin, moving it slowly to cover the entire treatment area. Some patients may experience mild discomfort, but normally, the treatment is painless
  • The number of treatments required for best results varies with each patient’s skin, but we normally recommend a course of 3-4 treatments, scheduled 6-8 weeks apart for best results. For all patients, we also recommend periodic maintenance treatments.

Post-treatment advice

Can all patients have micro-needling skin treatments?

Micro-needling is a minimally invasive procedure that is safe for almost all skin types. However, we do not recommend this treatment for the following patients:

  • Patients under the age of 20-years-old
  • Patients with any skin infection in or near the area of treatment
  • Patient with an active cancer in the area of treatment
  • Patients with any allergy to stainless steel or topical anesthetics
  • Patients suffering from eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, or active acne
  • Patients with a bleeding disorder
  • Pregnant or breast-feeding women
  • Patients who take Accutane

The decision to consult a physician for medical aesthetics treatment is the result of a long period of reflection for most patients. We are deeply committed to your care, and will take the time necessary to listen to you, establish a treatment plan adapted to your needs, and answer your questions. Educating and listening to our patients are among our highest priorities.
