SKIN BOOSTERS

Skin boosters are aesthetic medicine treatments that use the hydrophilic properties of hyaluronic acid to deeply rehydrate the skin. In the case of Skin booster, the function of hyaluronic acid is not to create volume but to hydrate, plump and nourish the skin deeply and durably to counter the effects of skin aging.

There are several approved Skin boosters in Canada. Our clinic uses Juvéderm® Volite, which is derived from Allergan's Vycross technology. The treatment is effective in improving the texture, hydration and elasticity of the skin and results of treatment can be seen over a period of up to 9 months. Juvederm® Volite works as a complement to fillers by improving the appearance of the skin.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all tissues of the human body. Its hydrophilic properties allow it to retain water. In the skin, hyaluronic acid helps maintain the elasticity and suppleness of the skin. Humans make and destroy a large amount of hyaluronic acid every day for tissue renewal. With aging, the body's production of hyaluronic acid slows down, causing the skin to become less hydrated and lose its elasticity and firmness.

What is the difference between hyaluronic acid used in fillers and skin booster?

There are several types of hyaluronic acid depending on their density. In some types of hyaluronic acid injection, a very dense solution is used for maximum volumizing effect. This is particularly the case with injections aimed at plumping the lips or accentuating certain volumes of the face (such as the cheekbones).

The hyaluronic acid contained in Skin booster is less dense and made up of fine particles. Unlike the hyaluronic acid used in filler injections, it does not change the volumes but aims to hydrate and deeply nourish the skin thanks to the call of water.

What are the indications of Skin boosters?

A treatment based on Skin boosters responds to many indications and allows results to be obtained on all skin types, whether more or less mature.

On young skin

  • Prevent sagging skin
  • Slow down the appearance of wrinkles by providing the skin with hydration and tone
  • Give a new radiance to the complexion
  • Prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

On mature skin (after 50 years)

  • Prevent skin aging by improving the quality, firmness and texture of the skin
  • Reduce wrinkles by plumping the skin
  • Improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck and décolleté

The course of treatment

After disinfection of the skin in the treated area, the product is injected into the dermis using a very fine needle. The product can be injected alone or during a treatment session with fillers.

Is the treatment painful?

The treatment is not very painful. The needles used are very fine. Before starting the treatment, it is possible to apply a local anesthetic in order to minimize the discomfort.

After the session

  • You can resume your usual activities.
  • It is recommended to avoid makeup for the first 12-18 hours after treatment
  • In some cases, you may notice slight bruising (bruising). These resolve quickly
  • Slight swelling may also appear at the injection sites.
  • It is recommended to do a maintenance treatment every 6 to 9 months to maintain the effects.
